I designed a cartoon today. It has the 2012 election map of the United States by Red and Blue with the state boundaries erased. In the middle it says Middle America Indian Territory and then each coast has West Obamastan and East Obamastan. I was reminded of what happened to the Indian colony after the British left in 1947.
My other thought was: I wonder how often someone takes into consideration the Red-Blue-ishness of a destination when they are going through the process of moving, getting a different job, school, etc.
AdditionaLLy, since the recreational marijuana laws passed in Colorado and Washington, I added some green to their states.
I also stole the Red portion of the western Florida panhandle and gave it to Middle America. I repositioned the Red Alaska, tucked right below Texas and to the right, to simulate the island of Ceylon.
At a future date I may repaint the rest of Florida purple.

Geographically, people have excellent reasons for holding different approaches to life. Fortunately, as your map demonstrates, people have large swatches of country to move around and still rub shoulders with like minded people.
I told my wife that we now have a good reason to vacation in nearby Colorado. (ha) I am reaLLy anti-marijuana for recreational use. I believe I have seen it warp people's lives.
All very clever, esb. :-)
I don't think anyone cares if you mess with Florida a bit. I think they may even have it coming...
Pearl
Pearl: I checked those western counties in Florida and they are pretty high in the Romney column. Then I started going through some counties in the Texas Panhandle and found some even higher. I think King County was 96% for Romney. I am not sure if that is the highest in the country or not.
I used to be anti-marijuana, but not I figure tax the hell out of it and decrease drug traffic to the U.S.
I like that you added a little green & purple.
Marianne: WHAT ARE you doing awake this late?!?!?!? ...hahahaha
Green and Purple, Red and Blue; I am a colorful guy, huh?
I saw that 'Chicago Fire' was on tonight (Wed), but I couldn't bring myself to watch it, not with your recent loss, it is just too sad.
Yes I am sorry about the Indian colony it was not my idea, I am not in favour of world domination or even street domination it always leads to trouble, nice people tend not to want to be dominant in the grand world of politics. This has led me to be suspicious of anyone who wants to be a leader. I think it best to make sure any leader goes out of their way to avoid leading me anywhere.
I am glad that the island of Ceylon is on your map although I suspect there may be a bit of conflict with Alaska about the weather. You see even the small act of turning Alaska into Ceylon has all sorts of possible problems. Maybe if you turned Cuba into Ceylon.
I agree about the marijuana but then I do not smoke or drink alcohol either so may be considered a bit of a bore by some.
Rob: I limit my domination to backyard boundaries. I also try to prevent people from abusing my trash dumpster in the alley. There was a man who came by the other day trying to put a truckload of branches into our dumpster. I politely reminded him he was s'pposed to take them to the city transfer station, and he agreed. But then he only moved halfway down the block before he stopped and fiLLed up a dumpster. But I caught him on video!
I like your combination of words, they should be combined as one word 'abitofaborebysome'. It is reaLLy fun to say fast and I wiLL try to work it into conversation. For some strange reason it reminds me of Russian guy Mikhail Gorbachov.
Your posting and my reading are getting way out of sync. Like the map although I think it would be funny to make the blue people pay a toll to cross the red zone.
fmcgmccllc: Out of sync? Oh, dear! Hope you enjoyed my humor. I asked my wife about putting that map on a shirt to seLL at our store, and her assistant loved it. I am thinking about changing the Obamastan captions to Arabic with English subtitles, but I can't imagine a bunch of Red Sector Texan's wearing anything with Arabic on it.
I like your revenue raising idea, I wiLL pass it on to the appropriate authorities. We wouldn't charge "red"-fugees who are escaping to the promised land. (Notice that pRomisED has a RED in it.)
No no, I meant it seems I am reading you a day later than usual.
fmcgmccllc: Oh, I see, perhaps I am a day behind with my writing(?). I reaLLy should be somewhere else painting right now ... which I should have could have started yesterday. But first let there be break-a-fast .... I have been reading a bunch lately, mainly Jon Ronson, on my second of his, plus I got a brand new giant piLLow.
If only it were that easy.
Partitioning is rarely the answer, working together is. But messing around on paper at least does no harm.
