We discovered a rescue dog that needed a home, and I got him just as soon as I could this morning, in spite of being given the wrong address to the facility.
This is our new dog Pepper. I am at home today on mutt-urnity leave, getting him adjusted to his new surroundings and meeting Cooper. He is a German Shepherd-Huskie mix like Cooper, only darker colored.
It wasn't until an hour after I got home that I realized that both dogs' names end with -per. It was quite by accident. My wife and I early this morning were going down a list of common German Shepherd names and I realized that Pepper would match his coloring. I had seen one photograph of him on Facebook from the local rescue site.

What a gorgeous dog. If it creates a problem you could always call him pepperoni.
fmcgmccllc: He is a fabulous dog already. So affectionate! After spending months trying to get a stray dog to come live with us, then suddenly disappear, we were heartbroken. And then find this one at the rescue place, it was wonderful. I discovered him online on Sunday and couldn't wait for Monday to get here. He is at the vet at this moment to get a full work-up, so I will come back tomorrow to get him. It appears I may have to pay the $18 rabies shot twice, because the rescue place charges you for it, but I use a vet from out of town. I don't trust the idiots in Borger or Fritch. The ones in Borger were afraid of Cooper, and then the evil Dr. Lee in Fritch, rat bastard deluxe, about strangled Cooper right in front of me!
Congratulations on the new canine acquisition. Now you can have a doggy style Christmas.

Tossing It Out
OOOoooooo I missed your Post Mr ESB I will return in the next couple of days . . . . Busy busy . . . . Hope all is going well with the dog, he looks good.
Rob: He is delightfully wonderful. He doesn't bark, or really make any noise, except that very first time I saw him in the cage at the rescue facility, then he was barking when he saw me simply because all the other dogs were barking. But once he was out of the cage he just melted into this soft being that seems to be his natural self. He will sometimes sit upright on his rear legs when he is right in front of me wanting some petting. He moves more like a German Shepherd than Cooper ever did. The ladies at the veterinarian hospital thought he was just German Shepherd and no Huskie content. He appears to be about a year old, no one knows for sure. He was at the hospital overnight for all his checkups and neutering procedure, and everything came back just fine on his health report.
I can see you and the new dog have got off to a flying start and all seems Hunky Dory which is good. It will hopefully be good for Cooper too. We would not have another dog now as we both have issues with walking and dogs do need to leap about at times, something I can not really do, and our two cats would be very grumpy if a dog turned up now.
I hope you plan to take a break over the Christmas period and chill a bit, have a good time and train Pepper to do many tricks. . . :)
Rob: Yes, new young dogs are alot of work and consume time. After ten years Cooper and I are very in sync and having a youngster is quite disturbing for both of us! Pepper is constantly getting between Cooper and me. I can remember when Cooper was tiny and quiet then grew up to be a handful of trouble, too. He was my son's dog for the first six months before he came to live with us permanently. Cooper was pretty destructive for maybe a year or so. I am already starting to see some improvements in Pepper after only six days, but then he is starting to do a few strange things like getting in my spot on the couch and not moving as I try to sit down. He did get to meet the housekeeper this week and followed her around a lot. My wife noticed that he doesn't look malnourished now.
fmcgmccllc: I like your Pepper wrong-y
I live to serve. You and I agree, no matter what the critter goes to our vet. I found a tumor on one the rescue people never found. Not a problem, but I trust my guy to take the best care.
fmcgmccllc: I told my wife this morning, that Pepper has been with us for six days now, so that means he (is costing us) less than a $100 a day. I have seen quite a bit of improvement in him in just these six days, with him figuring out his new environment. He tried to take Cooper's dog biscuit this morning and Cooper got very loud very fast. Today was my wife's longest day with him and so he has enjoyed her affection and watching her. Pepper seems to know his name now.
Arlee: Sorry, I somehow missed your comment. Yes, Pepper has been an interesting development. He has destroyed a few things and totally doesn't understand the commands, "Move" or "Go", he merely and adamantly becomes more Unmove and Ungo. He has figured out the 9 PM alarm on my phone, crickets, that means "time for cheese!". He is a very good snuggler, though, one of the most important features in a dog for me. He greatly interferes with Cooper though, who 10 1/2 and much slower about every physical action. I made pumpkin bread and they both enjoy it very much. I am going to start baking more and will have to develop a recipe for pumpkin bread, as I got 3 packages with all the ingredients at the store, but they are only there for a few weeks out of the year. I am pretty sure it will be cheaper, too.
