Beef versus Amazon and Amazon versus Buffalo

There is an article in The Washington Post about the Amazon rainforest being destroyed by Americans love of beef.

A long time ago when there was the Mad Cow Disease problem, I switched from beef ground meat to buffalo. It is raised on grasslands in the U.S. midwest, and arrives in our grocery stores in vacuum sealed packaging. It is even raised inside the city limits of Amarillo TX nearby, inside the Loop 335 in the northeast quadrant, although a brand new not quite operational Amazon fulfillment center is now occupying part of that land. Ironically a different Bezos based Amazon has permanently taken land away from raising cattle and buffalo. There were also donkeys and large white birds when I did some photography in the area several years ago.

Now that Putin has called off the attack on the steel plant where the last resistance fighters are in encircled in Mariupol, does that mean that Ukraine can call that tiny region a breakaway republic? 

I think a good name for it would be Seredniy palets, or in Ukrainian: Середній палець or in English: Middle Finger

From Putin:

"I consider the proposed storming of the industrial zone unnecessary. I order you to cancel it," he said. "There's no need to climb into these catacombs and crawl underground through these industrial facilities ... Block off this industrial area so that not even a fly can get through."

So Vladimir Putin created his own

No-Fly Zone in part of Ukraine !!!

My 5th Year with Hopper

These are some of the things that I learned about my dog Hopper during our 5th year together on earth.

When I give my dogs  their chew bones, they immediately head to the hallway to work on them. I noticed one evening that Hopper was not working on his bone, just laying there looking at it. Then I realized that because Pepper was in the living room working on his bone, that that might be the reason Hopper was waiting, that things weren't 'normal' for Hopper! So I asked Pepper to come be in the hallway in his usual place to work on his bone with Hopper. So just as soon as  Pepper went in the hallway and laid down in his normal spot, Hopper started working on his chew bone.

I gave Hopper a piece of cookie (Keebler Cashew Sandie) and its the kind of cookie that will leave little crumbs in your mouth, so he was trying to get the fragments by chewing and moving his tongue around AND it was becoming annoying AND I could NOT get him to try to take a drink of water to help get them out of his mouth! Oh, my, this went on for about 15-20 minutes!
