Absent For A Bit ....

I am away for a little while working on a few or more episodes for The Adventures of My Space Alien Alter Ego story ... will return (to Earth) soon!

Notice: Blogger has screwed up and lost a bunch of photos out of my blog! They are replaced with a gray silhouette of a human head. I will eventually get them replaced with the correct photo, it may take a while to find and fix everything. So some of my stories don't make much sense without their photos, sorry for the inconvenience.

CDO for Spaces and Spices

My friend has a cat picture with the words
I have CDO
it's like OCD
but all the letters are in alphabetical order
AS THEY SHOULD BE

My Response: All the important spices in my kitchen are segregated to an easily accessible ergonomic point on the left side of the stove,,,,, and of course they are in alpha beti cal order! I just now realized that I can spell 'alphabetical' alpha beti cally simply by adding a couple of spaces. Life doesn't get much better than that, ah. For some strange reason my iPad put a question mark at the end of that previous sentence instead of a period.

This used to drive my wife insane, always having my four favorite spices easily within reach. Roar!!! They weren't up in the cabinet out of sight, was the demand. I countered with, Roar!!! but you are wasting my time by them constantly getting LOST in the mess that is your cabinet! There were heated arguments in the early years where I even calculated (off the top of my head) Roar!!! how many HOURS per YEAR she was wasting of MY life by losing the spices in the black hole that is HER messy cabinet. End of Roaring.

Garlic Powder
Onion Powder
Pepper
Salt

But then Oregano was soon added, and it stayed at a population of five for maybe fifteen years. Plus I learned that it is okay to have multiple containers of pepper scattered throughout the house. Just leave mine alone, my one on The Row.

But recently The Wifey has been cooking a few new things and I added chili powder to my meaty cheesie scrambled eggs, so suddenly there are now eight containers on Spice Row.

And here they sit, all the thyme
I just now realized that is more than a silly sentence; it's true, that is all the thyme I have in the house.

That picture is so wrong. Herbs should be fresh. And onions and garlic are NOT powders.

Mia: I'm sorry, that is just how I started cooking, spices out of bottles. I had an oregano plant for awhile but it died and I have not replaced it. I use real onions quite abit but I have been lazy about using them, eXcept I did make some Onion soup for my wife lately. I will try to incorporate more freshness in spice world. I promise I will buy a garlic and run it through my press today just for you, when I make my next batch of Uncle Ern's World Famous Soup.

Mia: I made my soup with minced garlic and minced the onion as well. I found the pepper mill in the Cabinet Of The Lost, so I added fresh ground pepper. But the fresh oregano was a little too eXpensive, so I found freeze-dried oregano in the produce section. It was at least twice as eXpensive as the normal product, but cheaper than the fresh. The fresh oregano was the whole PLANT, with its roots still in soil. My soup tasted wonderful.

Next time just break the garlic and quarter the onions. It will taste so much better. When you chop it all up too much it loses most of its flavour.

Mia: my wife has a powerful sense of smell and said she could smell garlic on me during the next day. Mission accomplished.

Really enjoyed reading this. you guys sound like me and mine. He once ended up with 8 tins of mangoes and has a habit of leaving just a little bit of something in a packet and opening a new packet of whatever it is. I, on the other hand, feel a huge sense of accomplishment when a container is empty and my shelves are nice and neat again.

Julie: thanks for doing the mutual follow of blogs. I discovered your blog this morning and had a delightful time reading through your entire blog. I'm looking forward to seeing your future material.

I have grossed my wife out lately with the real garlic, just by what is in the air (?) perhaps I am using too much, or I just need to do a better job keeping the kitchen vent running 24/7. She has a much more sensitive nose than me. I am the product of too many years of working in a really *bad* smelly chemical plant, but those days are long gone.
