Absent For A Bit ....

I am away for a little while working on a few or more episodes for The Adventures of My Space Alien Alter Ego story ... will return (to Earth) soon!

Notice: Blogger has screwed up and lost a bunch of photos out of my blog! They are replaced with a gray silhouette of a human head. I will eventually get them replaced with the correct photo, it may take a while to find and fix everything. So some of my stories don't make much sense without their photos, sorry for the inconvenience.

I CERNtainly Know What You Are Saying

I go into the local diner slash bar that serves my wonderful grilled chicken sandwich with bacon. One of the cooks comes out to chat with me. We had not seen each other in several weeks. We chat physics alot.

The following lines were the very beginning of our conversation and we both knew what the other person was talking about, three words each.

Cook: smiling, "They found it!"

Me: "Yes, I heard."

What?!?!?

Higgs Boson, sub-atomic particles, Large Hadron Collider, CERN, Switzerland; just your typical tiny Texas town diner dinner conversation content.

And to think we could have had a super collider in Texas a long time ago, but it got voted down.

Here is a cartoon #89 that I drew as part of my series "TINY PICTURES FROM My BRAIN". I think this was from about twenty years ago.

Thats a rather good drawing Mr ESB. I know cooking is indeed a science but a cook at the diner discussing Higgs Boson, sub-atomic particles as well as making a really cool chicken sandwich is indeed a bonus....

Rob: I think he may leave soon to pursue a college degree in some field of science.

It is impressive that someone who labors as a cook (a very worthy profession) is well rounded enough to carry on such a conversation. I am still perhaps a little square in that area...

This is the most fabulous story. I love diners, I love smart people in unexpected places, I love the idea of super colliders even though I'm not entirely clear on their purpose.

Shame, that about Texas and the collider. I remember that. Ohio was even competing in the beginning.I wonder what will ever become of the Texas site.

Shelly: If you ask the right people, they wiLL teLL you that I am a square, but they forget to mention that I have rounded corners. If you ask the left people, they wiLL say hurriedly, "Never heard of him!!!" with fear and trembling. If you ask the wrong people, they wiLL say, "You know him too? So where is he hiding? He stiLL owes Vinnie The Sharck some money ...."

Joanne N: From wikipedia

Current status of site

After the project was canceled, the main site was deeded to Ellis County, Texas, and the county tried numerous times to sell the property. The property was finally sold in August 2006 to an investment group led by the late J.B. Hunt. Collider Data Center has contracted with GVA Cawley to market the site as a tier III or tier IV data center.

Chemical company Magnablend bought the property and facilities in 2012.

TangledLou: As a degreed chemist and math guy, I understand atom smashers a little bit. What I don't understand is how so many blacksmiths could have pounded on tons of red hot iron for so many centuries and not made a horse eXplode while instaLLing a pair of horseshoes.

So you're trying to tell us your mind ALWAYS worked this way? Show off.

Marianne: ALWAYS? To use the words of Rob Z Tobor: "hahahahahahahaha" - no, not always, just ask my dear wifey how ofTEN my mind misfires and FOURgets TWO do things .... No, I just happened to be in sync that day. Perhaps it was the eXpectation of "Soon, Chicken Sandwich GriLLed w Bacon" that had my superpowers keenly aware.

They actuaLLy keep a bottle of my veRy own BBQ sauce at the diner for my sandwich. Aren't they sweet?
